I stumbled into yoga as a dance student at NYU. Intrigued by the way my professor incorporated yoga into her dance classes, I started practicing yoga at the original Jivamukti Yoga Studio, in NYC’s East Village. I completed my 500-hour training in 1997 at the Jivamukti Yoga School, under the guidance of Sharon Gannon and David Life. To build on and diversify my understandings, I’ve spent many hours studying and practicing Anusara, Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Ashaya.

I’m the owner and director of JBYoga- a Yoga, Wellness and Lifestyle company currently based in the Hamptons, NY, but spanning the globe. Through practices such as Yoga and other movement practices and sports such as stand up paddleboarding, sup yoga, surfing, running, as well as a holistic lifestyle incorporating organic and seasonal eating and the use of alternative treatments and modalities such as aromatherapy, we seek to empower the individual to take their health (and their happiness) into their own hands.

What are your goals as a teacher?
My Goal as a teacher is to inspire my students, every day, to live their best lives by utilizing the tools that are available to them- the yoga and meditation practice of course, but also mama nature, beautiful, clean, organic food, mindset, and overall a commitment to a holistic lifestyle. I want to be an example of what is possible.
Who/what inspired you to teach yoga?
I've been teaching Yoga for 25 years (and I never intended to!!!). I would have to first and foremost give credit to Sharon Gannon and David Life as my first teachers at the Jivamukti Yoga Studio in the east village in NYC way back when, and then as I dove deeper into various traditions and realized how transformational and life changing this practice is, I didn't have a choice really. I think the Yoga chose me more than I chose to be a teacher, if that makes sense !
What keeps you practicing?
My absolute LOVE of Yoga. Every time I practice I am reminded of what a precious gift the practice is... it reveals more and more secrets to me every single time, and I am constantly in awe of the healing power of these shapes created in space, coupled with intentional breath and mindfulness. Pure magic.
If you weren't a yoga teacher, what would you be?
A professional surfer!!! (in my next life perhaps). I am most happy in the water, and if I could design a life in which I lived in a warmer climate year round and spent some time every day in the ocean, my life would be even better than it is now :)
What does organic mean to you?
Organic to me means pure, unadulterated, clean, healthy, sustainable- good for us and good for the planet. I made a commitment to eating organically about 15 years ago, and over those years my thoughts on this have expanded into other areas of my life such as the clothes I wear, and really anything I purchase. The next step for me is to go plastic free, and I have been moving in that direction.
How has yoga changed your life?
Yoga has given me the tools necessary to stay centered, grounded, and happy. I tend towards being a workaholic, and also have a LOT of fire in me that often needs to be cooled.. through my yoga practice, I have the self awareness to recognize all (or most!) of my own shit, and navigate the pressures and stresses of life with relative ease.
Besides yoga, what do you do to keep a healthy lifestyle?
I am a movement junkie and a nature lover. So get me outside and moving and I am in my element. I run, surf, paddleboard, swim, hike, cycle, and next on my list is learning to kitesurf! I am most happy when I am partaking in some sort of physical pursuit outdoors in nature, which in turn keeps me quite healthy. That, and eating mostly local, organic, and in season.. I am a food snob for sure, which is quite easy to become with a chef/gardener for a boyfriend (and 15 egg laying chickens roaming free in my backyard!!)
What do you love most about Hyde?
What I love about Hyde is its commitment to organics! I also am in love with the soft, feminine colors, the softness of the organic cotton, and the mission and vision of the founders, who I have known personally for many years.
