A new year is upon us. They seem to creep up faster and faster each year, and each year it feels harder to stick to New Year’s resolutions.
If you intended for yoga to be a bigger part of your 2015, don’t let a slow start to the New Year steer you off course. All you need is a little motivation, a little support, and the right tools to help you along. Follow these tips from Hyde to make yoga a more central part of your life this year:
Focus on the positive.
Yoga is considered a practice – it’s not something that any of us ever master. Rather, it’s a way of life, an eternal attempt to be more in tune with ourselves and the people around us. So if you’ve already missed a few yoga classes this January, don’t be too hard on yourself. Focus on what’s ahead, and look for little ways to incorporate yoga into your everyday life.
Stick a note on your computer that reminds you to breathe. Keep a yoga mat in the corner of your office, somewhere that you can see it, and when your stress levels rise, take a moment to practice a few grounding poses. We can all be better. Stop focusing on what you haven’t done and instead look forward to what you can do.
Find a buddy.
One of the most effective ways to ensure that you’ll actually get to class is to have someone else who’s counting on you being there. We suggest asking a friend, coworker or perhaps a fellow parent at your child’s school. If no one you know is interested in yoga, make the effort to get to know people in your classes.
Equip yourself for success.
We’re constantly amazed at what a huge difference the right yoga mat and the right attire can make. When you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing and supported by your mat, your practice becomes that much more fluid and restorative. If you’re just getting started with yoga, we highly recommend investing in some basic organic yoga clothing. The Kelly crop pant, for example, is a versatile and comfortable pant that will give you a complete range of motion in any yoga class. The Divine Drawstring organic yoga pants are another great choice, and they can transition from the street to the studio.
Whatever yoga-centric resolutions you have set for yourself in 2015, we hope you find the determination and will power to stay true to your goals and yourself this year and beyond!
