Sthira Sukham Asanam
Yoga Sutra II.46

One of the most famous verses in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra instructs that our asana—our seat or connection to the earth—should be sthira: steady, and sukha: happy. At Hyde, steady and happy connection to the earth translates as organic cotton. Because not only does it feel so good—it’s softest on the skin since there’s no chemical residue—but it’s also environmentally responsible.

Organic cotton is grown without the use of any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. By manufacturing our designs in cotton processed without chemicals, Hyde helps to reduce the air and water pollution that accompanies conventional cotton processing around the globe.

In an effort to run our business in accordance with the teachings of the yoga tradition, we are committed to creating not only a beautiful and functional line of yoga clothes, but also one whose production helps sustain our planet and alleviate the damage done by unmindful, if commonplace, manufacturing methods.

A few of the benefits of organic cotton include protecting the quality of both surface and groundwater by eliminating contaminants in irrigation runoff from the cotton fields, conserving biodiversity by not killing off multiple insect species during the growing season, creating a higher content of organic matter in the soil, and increasing topsoil depth which leads to considerably less soil erosion.

By producing our clothes with a fabric the both feels great to the touch and has a positive impact on our planet, we hope to inspire sthira and sukha in your own asana practice—both on and off the mat.

Hyde’s organic cotton is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and we dye our fabric with the environmentally sustainable bluesign system.
